Wachovia Cup Weekend

Another excellent weekend, courtesy of the Queen's City. Friday & Sunday - The Wachovia Cup. My first (and most definitely not the last) PGA event/tournament. Tiger wasn't here this weekend, but I'm a survivor. I was close enough to spit on Phil, Vijay, and rising Snedeker. So maybe it wasn't me that missed out but instead Tiger who missed out on seeing me... think about it.

But the "golf fun" didn't end with Sunday - instead my celeb-sightings have continued...

This morning, while at work, whom should I see i the lobby of the Hampton? Anthony Kim.... the Wachovia Cup Champion himself. (He stayed the whole week @ our hotel, but no one really cared until last night) Nice guy - dresses abit like a rapper.

& you are now assuming that this sums up the weekend - but you're wrong again... back to Friday... Hilary and I went to the Phillips Place Block Party in SouthPark. Featured Bands: The Pointer Sisters (what do they sing you might ask - i'm so excited) & The Doobie Brothers (hum - ooooh listen to the music). But that isn't the focus - no, the focus was dancing in a throng of 40 & 50 somethings right next to - Rick Flair... our local Charlotte retired Pro-Wrestler/resident.

The Celebs are just flocking to me these days...

A Who's Who Weekend

this was an excellent weekend for people watching [of the celebrity type]. hilary and i took a weekend road trip up to D.C. to visit some friends (and enjoy bumper to bumper D.C. traffic). our captiol is a great city even in the rain; so great that it attracts all types of celebrity.

sunday we headed out, with our native D.C. friends to their home church, McLean Bible Church (which is huge and quite the experience on its own). as we stood in the massive front lobby, hilary's brother (josh) leaned over and nodded his head towards the wall behind me. as i turned he said "i'm pretty sure that's one of the baldwin brothers." and sure enough - there stood steven baldwin in all his greasy haired glory. he's put on some weight since this picture was taken, but he is unmistakeble none-the-less. i hoped we might be lucky enough to catch some inspirational shout out, but apparently he was visiting for the same reason as we were - just to worship... but hey - i worshipped with steven baldwin this sunday! so feel free to be incredibly jealous. now that i have this experience under my belt - it's time to press on, next i want to go to church with john stamos and then dolly parton... one down, two to go.

equally (if not slightly more exciting) who should i happen to see walking outside my hotel this morning... Roy Williams. that's right... UNC Chapel Hill's basketball coach. although we didn't speak, i'm pretty sure i made quite the impression. standing in my yellow shirt and blue pin-stripe pants, how could i not. anyway - two celebs, one weekend.

(plus the wachovia cup is in town this week... so i am holding out for a few more celeb sightings... i'll keep you posted)

baseball @ it's best

yesterday i was doing a little "research" on our soon to be new home town (finding various places to waste free time and hopefully not too much money). during this process i stumbled across the augusta minor leage baseball team - the Augusta GreenJackets... awesome. i'm not a huge baseball fan - i enjoy going to games, but baseball on t.v. doesn't do it for me. but minor league teams remind me of going to bristol tiger games (and then bristol sox when they changed affiliations) with my grandad. hotdogs, fun-dip, and baseball bingo.

despite what you might think - minor league baseball is fantastic. and now i have a new team and their team-name may be the best i have ever discovered - a baseball team that bases its name from a world renowned golf tournament. just look at their emblem - i'll be getting the hat - watch for it.

Threshold

last Sunday was my last Sunday with our youth @ Threshold. what a great group of students. i'll defineitely miss all of you. of course i'll also follow all of you on facebook as you finish up high school and as many of you head off to college. so, just because my zip code is changing doesn't mean you won't be hearing from me... thanks for a great year + !

Charlotte

less than 2 months and Charlotte will have been our first home.

Charlotte (especially South Charlotte) has been a great place to "date" and enjoy what a city can offer a young couple. and because of this, i just think i should list a few of the things we'll miss (in no particular order):

1) Live Music: local artists @ the Promenade - Symphony @ SouthPark
2) Shakespeare on the Green (Uptown)
3) Thai Taste - Downtown Matthews
4) Dean & Deluca - coffee bar & wine bar
5) Coffee & Hembstead (our "preferred" neighborhood in South Charlotte)
6) SouthPark - the Palm; Upstream; California Pizza Kitchen; & the Cheesecake Factory
7) Rock Bottom Brewery
8) Paradise Valley Par 3
9) Sir Edmond Halleys
10) A Skyline

Probably a few things that made my list are more about me as an individual as opposed to me as a part of "a couple"... but i couldn't neglect them. there are more than made this list and more that have yet to be; so Charlotte will have to be a weekend destination even after it ceases to be home.

that's right folks... i have reached my first golfing goal: achieve par on a hole in regulation. of course it was on a 65 yard hole @ an in-city Par 3 course... but nonetheless... PAR. (one par out of 18 holes... apparently with a club in hand, you can call me mr. double bogey)

my next goal is to not lose a ball in each water hazard i encounter. i'm not going to put a date by which i will accomplish said goal (since i'll probably avoid heavily watered courses for a while), but the goal stands. (i'll keep you posted on my porgress)

a simultaneous goal: find a tweed jacket and hat like my role model in the picture above... that man makes golf look good.

A House!

Hilary and I are offically moving into a house! [when we move to Augusta] no more apartments: no more having to lock the doors of my car as i make each trip carrying groceries to my apartment; no more enjoying each and every family "discussion" from our neighbors below; no more parking our cars at our friends houses when we're out of town so that we'll still have a vehicle when we return home. no more leaks from every room in the apartment where there's plumbing (and some rooms where there isn't). no more livestock, such as (but not limited to) ducks, geese, and chicken wandering the grounds. no more watching scratches accumulate overnight as i am forced to park 8 inches from the car next to me (whose front bumper is 16 inches into my space); no more giving directions as follows, "park as near to the dumpster as you can. that will put you as close to our apartment as you can get..." - In other words, this will in no way be "bitter-sweet" - just sweet. Of course, this has been our first home, and that counts for something - but grand-scale - sweet.

Our new place will be next to a park (which has an 18-hole frisbee golf course). So, I'm sold! This will be our 1st Augusta home... I can't wait. Passing through and want to grab 9-holes-o-fribeee? Give me a call! [please note: the above picture is not a precise representation of our new home... there are a handful of subtle differences - namely in size, shape, and style.]

March Madness (a.k.a. "crack")

I have a love hate realtionship with the month of March. Easter, St. Patrick's Day, and March Madness make it a scrumtrulescent month. But focusing on March Madness, how can I be expected to maintain scholarly zeal when the NCAA Tournament beckons? Exactly, it's impossible. Consider my use of this week:

Monday: 5+ hours spent creating 13 brackets...
Tuesday: 2 hours refinement of brackets & 1.5 hours research (ESPN2)
Wednesday: 2 hours continued research & refinement + current blogging time

(lest the information be used against me, I will not divulge the hour breakdown for my scholastic endeavours for this week)

And the Tournament dosn't really hit its stride till tomorrow... I have to finish school soon - I cannot serve two March Masters - and the NCAA is so very strong....

i'll be honest - i don't think anyone (except me) is reading this. & i'm only reading it as i type... & yet i continue to type...

i've titled my blog - "The" Blog - so all of you (my faithful readers: a.k.a myself) can distinguish it from the millions (probably billions) of other blogs out there. let me just say here at the outset, "you're welcome."

the focus of these ramblings is yet to be determined (though i'm pretty sure they won't be political... seeing is i am embarassingly ignorant regarding the political arena). consider this a teaser and check back again soon!
